You don't need to be a trainspotter or model railway enthusiast to have heard of Flying Scotsman.
It was the first machine to break the 100mph speed barrier. It set the world record (in Australia) for the longest non–stop run, at 422 miles. It was the poster child of the London and North Eastern Railway. It was (and still is) the green–lacquered king of many children's Hornby train sets (although the real engine was painted black–out black during the war years). It even starred in its own movie, upstaging a young Ray Milland in a 1929 crime thriller called The Flying Scotsman.
Flying Scotsman came perilously close to being scrapped by British Railways in the 1960s, but was rescued by a private railway enthusiast. Now close to a hundred years old, Flying Scotsman is freshly refitted, back on track and set to visit the famous Bluebell Line in Sussex this April.
This outstanding break includes return coach travel, an unforgettable rail journey courtesy of the world's most famous locomotive, and free time in Windsor.
